Integrated Rural Development Project, Sindhupalchok, Kavre and Makwanpur, districts.
1. Background:
90% farmers in the project area belong to smallholders with an average landholding of 10 ropani land. An annual average income of the associated farmers is Rs. 175,000. These small farmers supply 90% of agro-products in the market and they till 90% of arable land.
2. Coverage area and beneficiaries
The project is being implemented in Bajrabarahi of Thaha Municipality of Makwanpur district, Devitar and Kavre VDCs of Kavrepalanchok district, and Kubinde of Chautary Municipality of Sindhupalchok district. Total targeted direct beneficiary population and households in these 4 VDCs are : HHs: 1600, Population: 8960 (farmers).
3. Overall objective
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to enhance sustainable livelihoods for beneficiary smallholding farmers through integrated development approach intended to maximize the productivity of per unit of land.

5.5. Appropriate Technology: 300 model farmers adopt appropriate technology.
5.6. Market Promotion: 300 farmers benefit from post harvest training. Market linkage for IPM/organic products established.
5.7. Health & Sanitation: Health, hygiene and sanitary situation with about 1000 farming beneficiary households enhanced.
5.8. Capacity Development: Institutional capacity of 4 VDC level users groups and 36 Ward Level users groups enhanced.
6. Introduction to Love Green Japan
Love Green Japan (LGJ) is a Tokyo-based non-profit development organization establish in 1991 in accordance with Japanese laws of non-profit organization (NPO). The vision of LGJ is to contribute to develop economically sustainable, environmentally sound and socio-culturally peaceful and harmonious communities in developing countries in Asian Regions.
LGJ has been working in partnership with sister NGO Love Green Nepal (LGN) in implementing projects on environment conservation, sustainable agriculture, small infrastructure and educational development in Nepal for the last 22 years. LGJ receives funding for projects from government agencies, corporate donors, NGOs, groups and individual donors with whom it shares its concerns and commitments.
The overall goal of LGJ’s mission in Nepal is to contribute to development of sustainable livelihoods for economically disadvantaged people in marginalized communities. LGJ strives to achieve its goal through implementation of integrated sustainable development projects with major activities such as environment conservation, sustainable agro-livestock, alternative energy, appropriate technology, health/sanitation, marketing, capacity development, etc.
For the last 22 years LGJ has been extending its support to sister NGO, LGN for implementing projects in VDCs from Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok and Makwanpur districts.
7. Introduction to Love Green Nepal
Love Green Nepal (LGN) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 1991. It is a legal entity registered (Regd. No. 249/048/49) with Kathmandu District Administrative Office of Nepal Government under the Organization Registration Act of 1977. LGN is affiliated (Affiliation No. 9149) to the Social Welfare Council a coordinating and umbrella body of NGOs in Nepal. It is also registered with Inland Revenue Department, Kathmandu (PAN No.301708975). LGN has been working in coordination with SWC and other government and non-government line agencies.
LGN’s head office is located in Sainbu VDC, Ward No. 1, Lalitpur. It operates field offices in Panchakhal, Anaikot, Kavre and Devitar VDCs of Kavre district and Kubinde and Bajrabarahi VDCs of Sindhupalchok and Makwanpur districts, respectively.
LGN has been working in partnership with LGJ for the last 23 years. Based on its professional capability in service delivery, visible outputs it has been demonstrating, and trust gained among the local communities, LGN is selected as a counterpart or partner NGO for this project. LGJ and LGN have been closely working in partnership by sharing common development philosophy, concepts and modality. LGN is one of reputed NGOs in Nepal making a difference in lives of the people in the grassroots communities.
